Thank you for visiting our site. This site is dedicated to the Dunlap, California flying site, commonly known as Dunlap Flight Park. We are dedicated to keeping this flying site open and available to pilots for hang gliding and paragliding flight. The site is operated through a lease from the landowners at launch. The Barton's, Jimmy, Debbie, Cindy, & Stephen have been working with us since 1982. They have very few requests when providing the lease beyond the initial payment, but appreciate your adherence to them. They are: no top landings, no smoking, no foul language, and no drinking of alcoholic beverages. These have been incorporated into our site rules, which you can read in the Site Rule section. These rules are handed out to pilots as they sign up for the flying season and pay their flight fees. Local landowners are usually fairly cooperative. They also have a few requests: do not go over, under or through any fences - find a gate and use them, please leave the gates as you find them (open if open and closed if closed). Please try not to startle farm animals (please don't run them). If you are landing near people on horseback, please let them know you are there prior to landing so as not to startle their horses causing the rider to be thrown (especially paragliders they can't hear you coming). If you land in an area that is not designated as a regular landing zone, please be very polite, pack up, and leave as soon as possible. Do not leave your equipment unattended in any of these types of areas as farm animals are very curious and may damage your equipment. Our flying site was established in 1980, when a couple pilots landed on what is now known as Dan's LZ. They were given permission by Connie Work, the landowner at the time, to continue to land on the forty acres at the back of the then RV Park. There were multiple Hang Gliding Regionals and two Hang Gliding Nationals held at the site beween 1982 and 1989. In 2009 we held the Paragliding Nationals. We obtained grant funds through the Foundation for Free Flight and BAPA to clean up and expand our launches. We offer a wooden platform ramp launch and flat sloped launches for your preferences. Our regular visitors particularly value the consistency of our flying site. We have been known to have hour long flights in December and January. We are located in Dunlap, California, which is approximately 40 miles east of Fresno up Highway 180. We are approximately 12 miles from the entrance to two National Parks, Kings Canyon and Sequoia. The launch is at 4600' ASL, located on Millwood Road north of Highway 180 on the road to Delilah Lookout (or Sequoia Highlands) and Dan's LZ is at 2,000' ASL, located on Millwood Road (left hand fork just past the Elementary School) which is off of Dunlap Road south of Highway 180 approximately 4.5 miles from the highway. (This is the same Millwood Road and you can follow it from launch to landing or visa versa, it is more like a one lane road, so use care driving it.) We hope you will visit and come fly with us.
